Explore the largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets and rugs in the world at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, displaying traditional and modern patterns of the nation's UNESCO-protected applied art. Opened in 1967 as the first specialized museum for carpets in the world, the museum has amassed an impressive collection over the decades. And in 2015 it relocated from a mosque to a modern building shaped like a rolled-up carpet by the Caspian Sea. Watch women weaving their patterns in one of the workshops, and learn about the different techniques and meanings of various patterns. Over 10,000 accompanying artifacts such as ceramics, jewelry, and metalwork enrich your understanding of this cultural heritage. I didn’t realize this country existed and when I looked it up online I expected to find a Harry Potter reference. I was wrong and happy! (Not something that happens often) Then I found this place. I love carpet! I really love carpet! I have an addiction to carpet! Finally I was home at the (drumroll) carpet museum! They had so many carpets. All of them beautifully weaved through blood sweat and tears. I am in love. I am home. I was also taught how to weave my own carpet. I didn’t even know I could do that! I attached a picture of my favorite carpet. So cool!
