Muhammad Mosque is a mosque dating to the 11th century in Baku's old city. The mosque is also known as Siniggala for the name of its minaret - Siniggala, meaning "damaged tower” because in 1723, during the Russo-Persian War, Russian warships began to bomb the city after it refused to surrender, and Russian shells struck the minaret of Muhammad Mosque and damaged it. A stormy wind then blew the Russian ships out to sea and the population interpreted this as a divine intervention to save the city. The minaret was not restored until the middle of the 19th century and remains a symbol of resistance. • Nice mosque, nice water management system. Prayer muslim here.
  • The mosque is transformed to a Holy Text (Quran) Museum. The museum is quite beautiful mosque, with a good inventory of items that are displayed there. It seems the mosque-museum attract less than what is expected visitors and tourists, but it worth than you might consider. I really enjoyed visiting this museum. Recommended!
