Create an itinerary including National Museum of History of Azerbaijan
Explore Azerbaijan's vast history and cultural heritage at the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. This site represents the largest museum in the country, set in the Italian Renaissance-style mansion of the former oil magnate Taghiyev. Set up in 1920 by the Bolsheviks, the museum documents the region's complex and interwoven past through more than 2,000 well-presented exhibits. Ceramics, intricate metalwork, weapons, and ornate textiles, pre-historic burial mounds, and ancient stone carvings are housed in two large ballrooms, one in oriental and the other occidental style. The museum's second floor details Taghiyev's life through restored personal quarters with carefully restored fin-de-siècle style rooms. Due to the size and variety of the collection, consider getting a tour guide. To visit National Museum of History of Azerbaijan on your trip to Baku, use our Baku vacation planner.

  • The museum is really worth to visit. There are two floors and each has different exhibitions. Actually there are three parts of this museum. 1st floor: 2nd Garabagh war, 2nd floor: H.Z. Taghiyev’s...

  • We believed the website hours 10AM-6PM Tue-Sun. Walked all the way there at 11AM Tuesday June 25 and found....it is closed for renovations until Sept 2019!! You would think that a major tourist attraction like this would take the time to update their website with such important information. If I could give ZERO STARS for this I would, but 1 star is the minimum. VERY UNSATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE for a major tourist attraction .
  • The fees was a bit expensive for tourists that should be more friendly to let foreigners get to know the country. The museum was good and provide us to know deeper for how hard and tough of your brave People. All toilets were very dirty even a few visitors.
