The area where Gabala Archaeological Center is located (local population call it as Chukhur Gabala) was built in the territory of the capital city of Gabala Albania since the 4th century BC. Archaeological researches are being conducted in this area since 1926. This archaeological center is divided into three areas for its functionality and for reflecting historical periods: “Gala”, “Salbir” and “Chaggalli”. The Chaggalli settlement (50 ha) consists of remains of city life that existed in the 4th century BC. Rich and cultural layers with a few meter thick dating to the 1-10th century in Salbir settlement (13 ha) and to the 1-7th century in Gala settlement (12 ha) of ancient Gabala were discovered.
