A national historical landmark and a World Heritage Site, Gobustan State Reserve is home to ancient stone relics, rock carvings, and mud volcanoes. Located 60km south of Baku, the reserve shelters more than 6,000 engraved images of prehistoric lifestyles, hunting, and animal and plant life, dating back between 5,000 and 40,000 years. Besides examining the petroglyphs, you can also visit the fantastic onsite museum and learn all about the ancient history of the region.   • A very interesting archaeological site where you can see real drawings of the Stone Age, which are more than many thousands of years old. But start your visit with the museum! The museum impressed...  more »
  • Great landscape, interesting history and nice tour. Don’t miss out if you are in Baku. It was a day trip tour.  more »
  • Spectacular (if you have an interest in such things). Cave drawings, weird/cool cliffs, perfectly camouflaged little lizards bouncing around . The museum has an excellent video that puts it all together chronicling the lives and deaths of the inhabitants. It's close to Baku and definitely worth the trip.
  • Keep your eyes open for the petroglyphs on the way. There're no signs.
