A green oasis on the arid Absheron Peninsula, Mardakan Arboretum is located at the former country mansion of a Baku oil tycoon. Filled with innumerable plant and tree species, it's a lovely spot for an afternoon stroll. There is a small artificial lake where you can ride small boats, as well as a museum to Russian poet Sergey Yesenin, who stayed here in the 1920s. You can also visit the Gothic-style house once inhabited by the oil baron Murtuza Mukhtarov.
