Basgal is a charming old settlement of narrow winding cobbled streets and two-storey stone houses in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains. It used to be famous for its thriving local silk industry and still today is known as the home of the art of kelaghayi - exquisite silk headscarves which are worn by Azerbaijani women. In previous centuries kelaghayis were produced in almost every house. The village is also home to two centuries-old mosques and a 17th-century hammam. Today Basgal is a state cultural and historic reserve. Use our Sileyli online trip planner to arrange your visit to Basgal Village and other attractions in Sileyli.
