The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Get out of town with these interesting Baku side-trips: Masazir Lake (in Masazir), Mikayil Mushfig House Museum (in Khizi) and Gobustan (Gobustan State Reserve, Mud Volcanoes, &more). There's still lots to do: examine the collection at Heydar Aliyev Center, make a trip to Baku Boulevard, explore the striking landscape at Yanardag, and take in panoramic vistas at Flame Towers.

For reviews, other places to visit, more things to do, and more tourist information, use the Baku road trip planning website.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Baku is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Dubai in August; daily highs in Baku reach 38°C and lows reach 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Sat) to allow time to fly back home.
