Gobustan

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Fri): contemplate the long history of Diri Baba Mausoleum. Keep things going the next day: learn more about the world around you at Gobustan State Reserve and then don't miss a visit to Mud Volcanoes.

Drive from Baku to Gobustan in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In September, daily temperatures in Gobustan can reach 31°C, while at night they dip to 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
