The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Heydar Mosque and Ganja Mall. Baku Old City and National Museum of History of Azerbaijan are good opportunities to explore the local culture. And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at Heydar Aliyev Center, go for a walk through Baku Boulevard, get a taste of the local shopping with Nizami Street/Torgovaya, and view the masterpieces at Ali Shamsi Studio.

Istanbul, Turkey to Baku is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. You can also take a bus; or drive. Traveling from Istanbul to Baku, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Kick off your visit on the 15th (Sun): make a trip to Mud Volcanoes and then get a new perspective on nature at Gobustan State Reserve.

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
Kick off your visit on the 16th (Mon): explore the world behind art at Museum of Folk and Applied Arts, admire the landmark architecture of Sheki Khans' Palace, and then don't miss a visit to Sheki Fortress. On your second day here, get a taste of the local shopping with Aliovsat Sweets House and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Kish.

You can drive from Gobustan to Sheki in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of train and bus. In August, daily temperatures in Sheki can reach 38°C, while at night they dip to 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Tue) early enough to drive to Ganja.

A Young Spirit Located in an Ancient Land

Famous as the birthplace of legendary poet Nizami, Ganja is a truly ancient city still bearing traces of the myriad kingdoms and empires that ruled over it in the past.
On the 18th (Wed), stroll through Maralgol lake and then contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Goygol. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: make a trip to Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Imamzadeh Mausoleum.
