The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Baku Old City and Baku Boulevard are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Escape the urban bustle at Gobustan State Reserve and Yanardag. Get out of town with these interesting Baku side-trips: Masazir Lake (in Masazir), Candy Cane Mountains (in Khizi) and Beshbarmag Mountain (in Siyazan). There's lots more to do: examine the collection at Heydar Aliyev Center, take an in-depth tour of National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, take in panoramic vistas at Flame Towers, and delve into the distant past at Ateshgah Fire Temple.

To find maps, other places to visit, reviews, and more tourist information, read Baku planning website.

If you are flying in from United Arab Emirates, the closest major aiport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 13°C in March, and nighttime lows around 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
