The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Philharmonic Park and Heydar Mosque. Venture out of the city with trips to Gobustan (Mud Volcanoes & Gobustan State Reserve) and Dalga Beach Aquapark Resort (in Mardakan). Dedicate the 19th (Mon) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's much more to do: contemplate the long history of Baku Old City, see the interesting displays at National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature, take in the spiritual surroundings of Juma Mosque, and appreciate the history behind Monument to Richard Sorge.
