Trieste, Italy to Baku is an approximately 12.5-hour combination of shuttle and flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. The time zone changes from Central European Standard Time (CET) to Azerbaijan Standard Time (AZT), which is usually a 3 hour difference. Traveling from Trieste in December, you will find days in Baku are little chillier (10°C), and nights are about the same (3°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 2nd (Sat) to allow time to drive to Gobustan.

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Sun): examine the collection at Gobustan State Reserve. On the 4th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate the long history of Diri Baba Mausoleum and then don't miss a visit to Mud Volcanoes.

Traveling by car from Baku to Gobustan takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In January in Gobustan, expect temperatures between 8°C during the day and 2°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Tue) early enough to travel back home.
