Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Here are some ideas for day two: make a trip to Mud Volcanoes and then get a new perspective on nature at Gobustan State Reserve.

Muscat, Oman to Gobustan is an approximately 8.5-hour flight. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Muscat in July: high temperatures in Gobustan hover around 36°C and lows are around 26°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 27th (Wed) so you can go by car to Gabala.
