The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Step out of Baku to go to Masazir and see Masazir Lake, which is approximately 30 minutes away. Dedicate the 25th (Mon) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Next up on the itinerary: don't miss a visit to Baku Old City, delve into the distant past at Ateshgah Fire Temple, examine the collection at Museum of Miniature Books, and enjoy breathtaking views from Flame Towers.

If you are flying in from Germany, the closest major aiport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport. In January in Baku, expect temperatures between 8°C during the day and 2°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 30th (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Gobustan.

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Start off your visit on the 31st (Sun): learn more about the world around you at Gobustan State Reserve. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: don't miss a visit to Diri Baba Mausoleum and then make a trip to Mud Volcanoes.

You can drive from Baku to Gobustan in 1.5 hours. Another option is to take a train. January in Gobustan sees daily highs of 8°C and lows of 2°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Mon) so you can travel to Ismayilli.

Take a trip to Ismayilli to discover a region of rolling countryside producing some of Azerbaijan’s best honey, dairy produce, and wine.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Tue): do a tasting at Meyseri Wines, explore the ancient world of Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum, then admire the masterpieces at Basgal Village, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Lahij Central Street. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 3rd (Wed): learn about winemaking at Chabiant Winery and then make a trip to Ivanovka Village.
