Baku — 7 nights

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Heydar Mosque and Ganja Mall. And it doesn't end there: tee off at Dreamland Golf Club, take in the pleasant sights at Baku Boulevard, see the interesting displays at National Museum of Azerbaijan Literature, and steep yourself in history at Baku Old City.

Zagreb, Croatia to Baku is an approximately 11-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of bus and train. Traveling from Zagreb to Baku, you'll lose 3 hours due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Zagreb in August, things will get a bit warmer in Baku: highs are around 38°C and lows about 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Sat) early enough to drive to Gobustan.

Gobustan — 1 night

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Kick off your visit on the 5th (Sun): make a trip to Mud Volcanoes and then learn more about the world around you at Gobustan State Reserve.

Traveling by car from Baku to Gobustan takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In September, plan for daily highs up to 31°C, and evening lows to 22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 5th (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Gabala.

Gabala — 1 night

If you're fed up of the concrete jungle, take a trip to Gabala for the perfect getaway.
On the 6th (Mon), contemplate the waterfront views at Nohur Lake, then glide through natural beauty at Tufandag Winter Summer Resort, and then find something for the whole family at Gabaland.

You can drive from Gobustan to Gabala in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and taxi. Traveling from Gobustan in September, expect little chillier with lows of 17°C in Gabala. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) so you can go by car to Sheki.

Sheki — 2 nights

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
On the 7th (Tue), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Kish, admire the landmark architecture of Winter Palace, and then relax in the rural setting at Bio Garden. Keep things going the next day: admire the masterpieces at Museum of Folk and Applied Arts, admire the striking features of Sheki Khans' Palace, and then don't miss a visit to Sheki Fortress.

Traveling by car from Gabala to Sheki takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In September in Sheki, expect temperatures between 31°C during the day and 19°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Ganja.

Ganja — 3 nights

Famous as the birthplace of legendary poet Nizami, Ganja is a truly ancient city still bearing traces of the myriad kingdoms and empires that ruled over it in the past.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Thu): take in the spiritual surroundings of Imamzadeh Mausoleum, don't miss a visit to Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Heydar Aliyev Park. On the 10th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate the waterfront views at Maralgol lake and then stroll through Lake Goygol.

Traveling by car from Sheki to Ganja takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In September, daily temperatures in Ganja can reach 32°C, while at night they dip to 20°C. You'll set off for home on the 11th (Sat).
