A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Get some historical perspective at Juma Mosque and Mahammad Mosque. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Wine Tours & Tastings and Museum of Miniature Books. Change things up with a short trip to Gobustan State Reserve in Gobustan (about 1h 5 min away). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Baku Old City, ponder the design of Philharmonic Park, explore the ancient world of Ateshgah Fire Temple, and pause for some serene contemplation at Juma Mosque.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Baku is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive. Prepare for cooler weather when traveling from Dubai in December: high temperatures in Baku hover around 10°C and lows are around 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Ismayilli.

Ismayilli — 2 nights

Take a trip to Ismayilli to discover a region of rolling countryside producing some of Azerbaijan’s best honey, dairy produce, and wine.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Fri): appreciate the extensive heritage of Lahij Central Street. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 25th (Sat): explore the world behind art at Basgal Village and then explore the ancient world of Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum.

Traveling by car from Baku to Ismayilli takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus; or do a combination of train and taxi. Traveling from Baku in December, expect slightly colder with lows of -2°C in Ismayilli. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 26th (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Goygol.

Traveling by car from Ismayilli to Goygol takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Sheki.

Sheki — 6 nights

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
Visiting Tufandag Winter Summer Resort and Ilisu Waterfall will get you outdoors. Discover out-of-the-way places like Sheki Khans' Palace and Seven Beauties Waterfall. Step out of Sheki with an excursion to Zagatala State Reserve in Zagatala--about 1h 50 min away. There's still lots to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Kish, admire the masterpieces at Museum of Folk and Applied Arts, and make a trip to Sheki Fortress.
