The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Wed): enjoy breathtaking views from Flame Towers and then don't miss a visit to Baku Old City. On the 6th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: get a taste of the local shopping with Nizami Street/Torgovaya, then take in the pleasant sights at Baku Boulevard, and then examine the collection at Heydar Aliyev Center.

To see other places to visit, more things to do, maps, and tourist information, read our Baku trip itinerary site.

Expect a daytime high around 8°C in January, and nighttime lows around 2°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.

Land of Fire
A holiday in Azerbaijan allows intrepid travelers to discover a history-steeped country sitting at the crossroads of Southeastern Europe and Southwest Asia, an area once controlled by a succession of ancient empires. With its dual Eurasian character, Azerbaijan remains a highly intriguing destination, with tourism one of the top contributors to the country's booming economy. Many begin their tour of Azerbaijan in World Heritage-listed Baku, a cosmopolitan city boasting innovative architecture and a well-preserved historic core.
