Gobustan — 1 night

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Here are some ideas for day two: make a trip to Mud Volcanoes and then examine the collection at Gobustan State Reserve.

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
Kick off your visit on the 5th (Sat): pause for some serene contemplation at Church of Kish, don't miss a visit to Sheki Fortress, and then admire the landmark architecture of Sheki Khans' Palace.

You can drive from Gabala to Sheki in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 10°C in February, and nighttime lows around 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Sat) so you can drive to Ganja.

Ganja — 3 nights

Famous as the birthplace of legendary poet Nizami, Ganja is a truly ancient city still bearing traces of the myriad kingdoms and empires that ruled over it in the past.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Lake Goygol and Nizami Ganjavi Mausoleum. Get some historical perspective at St. John's Church and Imamzadeh Mausoleum. The adventure continues: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shah Abbas Mosque and contemplate the waterfront views at Maralgol lake.

Getting from Sheki to Ganja by car takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: take a train. In February, daily temperatures in Ganja can reach 11°C, while at night they dip to 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Tue) early enough to fly to Baku.
