Azerbaijan's former capital surrounded by fine countryside and packed with cultural heritage, Shamakhi is one of Azerbaijan’s most historic cities and the birthplace of legendary Azerbaijani poets Sabir and Nesimi.

Famous as the birthplace of legendary poet Nizami, Ganja is a truly ancient city still bearing traces of the myriad kingdoms and empires that ruled over it in the past.
Explore Ganja's surroundings by going to Sheki (Sheki Fortress & Sheki Khans' Palace) and St. John's Church (in Goygol). There's much more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Goygol, stroll through Maralgol lake, take in the spiritual surroundings of Imamzadeh Mausoleum, and admire the striking features of Bottle House.

Traveling by train from Shamakhi to Ganja takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi and train; or drive. In February, daytime highs in Ganja are 11°C, while nighttime lows are 1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Thu) so you can catch the flight to Baku.
