A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Juma Mosque and Baku Old City will appeal to history buffs. Get outdoors at Baku Funicular and Baku Crystal Hall. Dedicate the 8th (Sat) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Museum of Miniature Books, browse the different shops at Ganja Mall, take in the exciting artwork at Ali Shamsi Studio, and make a trip to Baku Boulevard.

Plan for slightly colder temperatures traveling from Baku in January, with highs in Nakhchivan at 40°F and lows at 25°F. Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Mon): take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Kish and then look for gifts at Aliovsat Sweets House. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: explore the world behind art at Museum of Folk and Applied Arts, admire the landmark architecture of Sheki Khans' Palace, and then make a trip to Sheki Fortress.

Famous as the birthplace of legendary poet Nizami, Ganja is a truly ancient city still bearing traces of the myriad kingdoms and empires that ruled over it in the past.
