The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Get out of town with these interesting Baku side-trips: Gobustan (Gobustan State Reserve, Mud Volcanoes, &more), Mardakan (Mardakan Arboretum, Mardakan Fortress, &more) and Mosque Mir Movsum Agha (in Shuvelan). Dedicate the 13th (Tue) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. Spend the 3rd (Tue) exploring nature at Absheron National Park. There's much more to do: go for a walk through Baku Boulevard, take in panoramic vistas at Flame Towers, see the interesting displays at Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, and steep yourself in history at Baku Old City.

To see photos, other places to visit, maps, and tourist information, you can read our Baku day trip tool.

If you are flying in from Turkey, the closest major aiport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport. In October, daytime highs in Baku are 21°C, while nighttime lows are 14°C.
