The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
When in Baku, make a side trip to see Gobustan State Reserve in Gobustan, approximately Gobustan away. There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Baku Old City, see the interesting displays at Heydar Aliyev Center, take an in-depth tour of National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, and take in the pleasant sights at Baku Boulevard.

To find maps, more things to do, where to stay, and more tourist information, read our Baku journey maker tool.

In February, daily temperatures in Baku can reach 9°C, while at night they dip to 3°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Fri) early enough to travel back home.

With its dual Eurasian character, Azerbaijan remains a highly intriguing destination, with tourism one of the top contributors to the country's booming economy. Many begin their tour of Azerbaijan in World Heritage-listed Baku, a cosmopolitan city boasting innovative architecture and a well-preserved historic core. A short drive out of this thriving capital, you can explore timeless villages surrounded by thick orchards and flanked by the majestic Caucasus Mountains.
