The City of Poets and Former Ancient Capital of the Country

Azerbaijan's former capital surrounded by fine countryside and packed with cultural heritage, Shamakhi is one of Azerbaijan’s most historic cities and the birthplace of legendary Azerbaijani poets Sabir and Nesimi.
Start off your visit on the 4th (Thu): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Juma Mosque. Keep things going the next day: delve into the distant past at Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum and then don't miss a visit to Diri Baba Mausoleum.

To find more things to do, other places to visit, where to stay, and other tourist information, go to the Shamakhi day trip website.

Baku to Shamakhi is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or do a combination of bus and taxi. Traveling from Baku in November, Shamakhi is slightly colder at night with lows of 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Sheki.
