A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Get a sense of the local culture at Baku Old City and Baku Boulevard. Get some historical perspective at Ateshgah Fire Temple and Alley of Martyrs. Dedicate the 11th (Mon) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's much more to do: examine the collection at Heydar Aliyev Center, enjoy breathtaking views from Flame Towers, get a taste of the local shopping with Gurmania, and tee off at Dreamland Golf Club.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Baku is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also drive. The time zone changes from Arabian Standard Time (AST) to Azerbaijan Standard Time (AZT), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Riyadh in July; daily highs in Baku reach 36°C and lows reach 26°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Tue) early enough to go by car to Gobustan.

Gobustan — 1 night

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Start off your visit on the 13th (Wed): learn more about the world around you at Gobustan State Reserve and then don't miss a visit to Mud Volcanoes.

Traveling by car from Baku to Gobustan takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. In July, daily temperatures in Gobustan can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 26°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Wed) so you can catch the flight back home.
