The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Your day by day itinerary now includes Chirag Gala Fortress. Get some historical perspective at Juma Mosque and Archangel Michael Russian Church. Museum of Miniature Books and Baku Funicular are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Venture out of the city with trips to Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum (in Shamakhi) and Mud Volcanoes (in Gobustan). There's still lots to do: take in the exciting artwork at Ali Shamsi Studio, admire the local landmark of Philharmonic Park, get a taste of the local shopping with Museum of Modern Art, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Heydar Mosque.

To see traveler tips, where to stay, photos, and other tourist information, you can read our Baku driving holiday planning site.

If you are flying in from Belgium, the closest major aiport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 10°C in December, and nighttime lows around 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Tue) so you can travel back home.
