A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.Your day by day itinerary now includes Chirag Gala Fortress. Get some historical perspective at Juma Mosque and Archangel Michael Russian Church. Museum of Miniature Books and Baku Funicular are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Venture out of the city with trips to Yeddi Gumbaz Mausoleum (in Shamakhi) and Mud Volcanoes (in Gobustan). There's still lots to do: take in the exciting artwork at Ali Shamsi Studio, admire the local landmark of Philharmonic Park, get a taste of the local shopping with Museum of Modern Art, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Heydar Mosque.
