The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
For shopping fun, head to Nizami Street/Torgovaya or Park Bulvar Baku. Heydar Aliyev Center and Baku Old City are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Dedicate the 6th (Mon) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. There's much more to do: take in the pleasant sights at Baku Boulevard, explore the different monuments and memorials at Alley of Martyrs, examine the collection at Museum of Miniature Books, and take in the dramatic natural features at Yanardag.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Baku is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also drive. Plan for cooler temperatures traveling from Dubai in December, with highs in Baku at 10°C and lows at 3°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Thu) to allow time to drive to Gobustan.

Gobustan

Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
On the 10th (Fri), get a new perspective on nature at Gobustan State Reserve and then make a trip to Mud Volcanoes.
