The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Change things up with a short trip to Gobustan State Reserve in Gobustan (about 1h 5 min away). There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Baku Old City, make a trip to Baku Boulevard, tour the pleasant surroundings at Yanardag, and delve into the distant past at Ateshgah Fire Temple.

Azerbaijan's True Historical Gem

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sheki: Chotari Albanian-Udi Church (in Nij) and Gabala (Nohur Lake, Tufandag Winter Summer Resort, &more). The adventure continues: get engrossed in the history at Sheki Khans' Palace, make a trip to Sheki Karvansaray, admire the striking features of Winter Palace, and pause for some serene contemplation at Church of Kish.

Traveling by car from Baku to Sheki takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and taxi; or take a train. In March, daytime highs in Sheki are 15°C, while nighttime lows are 5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 31st (Wed) early enough to go by car back home.
