The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Change things up with a short trip to Gobustan State Reserve in Gobustan (about 1h 5 min away). There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Baku Old City, make a trip to Flame Towers, tour the pleasant surroundings at Yanardag, and delve into the distant past at Ateshgah Fire Temple.

Azerbaijan's True Historical Gem

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sheki: Chotari Albanian-Udi Church (in Nij) and Gabala (Nohur Lake, Tufandag Winter Summer Resort, &more). The adventure continues: admire the landmark architecture of Sheki Khans' Palace, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Kish, and don't miss a visit to Sheki Karvansaray.

Getting from Baku to Sheki by car takes about 4.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of flight and taxi; or take a train. In March, plan for daily highs up to 15°C, and evening lows to 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Wed) to allow enough time to drive back home.
