Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
Kick off your visit on the 10th (Fri): steep yourself in history at Diri Baba Mausoleum. On the 11th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: don't miss a visit to Mud Volcanoes and then learn more about the world around you at Gobustan State Reserve.

You can drive from Gobustan to Baku in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train. Expect a daytime high around 10°C in December, and nighttime lows around 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Fri) so you can fly back home.
