A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Start off your visit on the 13th (Sat): pause for some photo ops at Sculpture Girl on Bench, make a trip to Fountains Square, and then examine the collection at Heydar Aliyev Center.

Manama, Bahrain to Baku is an approximately 6.5-hour flight. You can also drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Manama to Baku. Prepare for little chillier weather when traveling from Manama in August: high temperatures in Baku hover around 38°C and lows are around 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 14th (Sun) to allow time for the car ride to Gabala.

Drive from Baku to Gabala in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of train and taxi. Plan for little chillier nights when traveling from Baku in August since evenings lows in Gabala dip to 20°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 15th (Mon) so you can go by car to Sheki.

Getting from Gabala to Sheki by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. Traveling from Gabala in August, Sheki is a bit warmer at night with lows of 24°C. You'll set off for Ganja on the 15th (Mon).

Ganja — 1 night

Famous as the birthplace of legendary poet Nizami, Ganja is a truly ancient city still bearing traces of the myriad kingdoms and empires that ruled over it in the past.
On the 16th (Tue), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Imamzadeh Mausoleum, then contemplate the waterfront views at Maralgol lake, and then buy something for everyone on your list at Ganja Mall.

You can drive from Sheki to Ganja in 2.5 hours. Another option is to take a train. Expect a daytime high around 39°C in August, and nighttime lows around 25°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Tue) early enough to drive to Goygol.

Located in the western part of Azerbaijan, Goygol and its surrounding countryside remain one of the most picturesque regions in the country.
On the 17th (Wed), explore the wealth of natural beauty at Lake Goygol. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 18th (Thu): make a trip to St. John's Church and then learn about winemaking at Sharg Ulduzu Wines.
