The City of Eternal Flames, the City of Winds

A truly contemporary city criss-crossed by history, Baku offers everything from the modern elegance of the Flame Towers to the medieval UNESCO-listed Old City at its core.
Venture out of the city with trips to Gobustan (Gobustan State Reserve & Mud Volcanoes). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Baku Old City, explore the ancient world of Ateshgah Fire Temple, see the interesting displays at Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, and make a trip to Yanardag.

If you are flying in from France, the closest major aiport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport. In July in Baku, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 26°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Fri) so you can travel back home.
