Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape (UNESCO Heritage) covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.
On the 29th (Sun), steep yourself in history at Diri Baba Mausoleum. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: make a trip to Mud Volcanoes and then get a new perspective on nature at Gobustan State Reserve.

Sheki — 1 night

Sheki is Azerbaijan’s true travel gem, a small city off the forested slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains rich in Silk Road history and renowned for its fascinating architecture, food, and friendly residents.
Start off your visit on the 31st (Tue): make a trip to Sheki Fortress, then browse the exhibits of Sheki Khans' Palace, and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of Kish.

Traveling by car from Gobustan to Sheki takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of train and bus. Expect a daytime high around 28°C in May, and nighttime lows around 16°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 31st (Tue) so you can go by car to Baku.
